As part of the Low Carbon Building Programme (LCBP), the Department for Business Enterprise and Energy Reform (BERR) are making grants available only to those who use a certified installer and products.   Grants are available for private householders, community organisations, public, private and non-profit sectors. 

All these grants require MCS accredited products and installers and you find us if you follow the installers links on each site www.microgenerationcertification.org

Low Carbon Buildings Programme Grants – Public Sector & Charitable Bodiesline

Individual property owners including private householders can apply for grants from the programme. The current grant levels are as follows:

Solar photovoltaics

Maximum of £2,000 per kW of installed capacity, subject to an overall maximum of £2,500 or 50% of the relevant eligible costs, whichever is the lower

Wind turbines

Maximum of £1,000 per kW of installed capacity, subject to an overall maximum of £2,500 or 30% of the relevant eligible costs, whichever is the lower

Small hydro

Maximum of £1,000 per kW of installed capacity, subject to an overall maximum of £2,500 or 30% of the relevant eligible costs, whichever is the lower

Solar thermal hot water

Overall maximum of £400 or 30% of the relevant eligible costs, whichever is the lower

Ground source heat pumps

Overall maximum of £1,200 or 30% of the relevant eligible costs, whichever is the lower

Air source heat pumps

Overall maximum of £900 or 30% of the relevant eligible costs, whichever is lower

Automated wood pellet fed room heaters/stoves

Overall maximum of £600 or 20% of the relevant eligible costs, whichever is the lower

Wood fuelled boiler systems

Overall maximum of £1,500 or 30% of the relevant eligible costs, whichever is the lower

Low Carbon Buildings Programme Public Sector Grantsline

Grants of up to 50% of total project costs are available for the supply and installation of any combination of the following technologies:

  • Solar photovoltaics
  • Solar thermal hot water
  • Wind turbines
  • Ground source heat pumps
  • Automated wood pellet stoves
  • Wood fuelled boiler systems

Grants for Community Based Organisations (Non Profit Making)line

Grants are also available for non profit making community based organisations in England. There are two types of grant available:

Project Development Grants

Grants are available for studies investigating the feasibility of installing any combination of the microgeneration technologies listed below. The maximum grant available is £5,000 or 75 per cent of the study cost - whichever is lower.

Capital Grants

Grants are available for the purchase and installation of any combination of the following technologies:

  • Solar photovoltaics
  • Solar thermal hot water
  • Wind turbines
  • Heat pumps
  • Automated wood pellet stoves
  • Wood fuelled boiler systems
  • Micro-hydro turbines

Funding will also be available for energy efficiency measures, such as cavity wall and loft insulation in combination with the microgeneration technology. Where these are not already in place, you will have to install them in order to qualify for a microgeneration capital grant.

Organisations can apply for up to £50,000 or 50 per cent of the project cost (whichever is lower) for installing microgeneration technologies and energy efficiency measures.
